Satellite Cybersecurity

Expanded attack surfaces leads to extend cyber attacks

Satellites are increasingly becoming critical to our society, providing various services, from communication and navigation to weather forecasting and disaster response. As a result, they are also becoming increasingly attractive targets for cyberattacks. The cyber security of commercial and government satellites is a growing concern. As satellites become more critical to society, they become more attractive cyberattack targets. As we take satellites for granted, so is the security of those devices.

This short course covers satellite security measures, ground station controls, and an overview of historical cyber attacks against satellites.

There are challenges to securing satellites. Organizations design satellites with limited security features that are difficult to update and patch. Satellites connected to ground stations are vulnerable to attack.

The cyber security of commercial and government satellites is a growing concern. As satellites become more critical to society, they become more attractive cyberattack targets.
